My Review

The Podcast Provides Helpful, Real-World Information. The hosts bring their own personal experiences to the forefront in this podcast as they make actionable, realistic, focused suggestions for authors seeking marketing tips (and success!)  I first listened to the episode "How to Get Your Author Website to Rank on Google" and took some notes from the ideas and suggestions--but I really enjoyed hearing the hosts' input and reality checks offered throughout. While the hosts certainly cover the SEO, "keywords are key," "images," "meta descriptions," etc., they really add context to apply these suggestions for authors to use in meaningful ways.

Expect Focus, Organized Content. The podcast presents the information in a very guided, focused, and organized fashion. There are some side conversations, but even those are relevant and valuable to an author seeking book marketing direction.

Would I Recommend Book Marketing Tips & Author Success from Penny Sansevieri and Amy Cornell? I learned a lot from this episode and found several key takeaways that I had heard before but that took on greater significance as the hosts connected the points to an author's success journey. The hosts connect well, and the dialogue is conversational and educational, without sounding preachy or forced. If you are looking for a real-world podcast geared toward helping authors understand the many hats of book marketing and author success, this is an engaging podcast that I look forward to listening to.

About the Book

Janie’s Hope is the captivating conclusion of the Southport Series, set in a charming small town where secrets run deep and love has the power to heal even the deepest wounds. Janie, a strong neurodivergent heroine, has always felt like an outsider, grappling with her emotions and social awkwardness. Raised by a reclusive billionaire father, she yearns to break free from the confines of her sheltered life and discover her true self.

Her existence has been shaped by stories of her mother, Lizzie Levine, and the fleeting moments they shared in Southport. Eager to uncover her past, Janie is determined to follow in her mother’s footsteps, even as her father's warnings of danger loom large.

Enter Noah, the sweet and adorkable cinnamon roll with hidden abs and quiet confidence, who falls for Janie almost immediately, captivated by her fiery spirit. But hidden truths linger in the shadows, including Janie’s secret identity, complicating their growing connection.

In this emotional journey of self-discovery and love, Janie’s Hope will sweep you away into a world where second chances and found family collide, proving that sometimes, the strongest bonds are forged in the most unexpected ways.

With a captivating and engaging writing style, S.R. Fabrico draws you into an extraordinary tale, taking your emotions on a soaring journey alongside Janie. Whether you’re a fan of gripping suspense or heartwarming romance, the Southport Series is an absolute must-read. Don’t miss your chance to dive into a world brimming with passion, intrigue, and unforgettable moments.

My Review

"Janie’s Hope" Ends the Series Perfectly. I enjoyed every book in this series, and this one was no exception. It had been a while since I had read the previous books, and I read a lot, so I was a little out of the loop at the beginning--but, I was able to remember pieces and fill in the gaps as Hope (Janie) filled in the pieces on her own. While this could be read as a stand-alone with the reader learning about Hope's past along with the character, I think it's best to read in order as a series so that you don't feel that you've missed things along the way. Once the highlights of the previous books came back to me and the current story fell into place, I enjoyed this book just as much as the earlier ones and found that the ending fit perfectly.

Expect Characters to Love and A Story That You Won't Want to Leave. Hope finds family and love and fills in the pieces of her past as this series comes to an end. I am always a fan of dogs in books--and I loved DD's role in this story. Expect to become attached to the characters of Southport and to Hope's story as she finds a love interest and the keys to her past in the process. While the story finds complete resolution and ends as it should, the world created by the author is one that readers will be sad to leave.

Would I Recommend "Janie's Hope" by S.R. Fabrico? This is an easy-to-read story with suspenseful moments, a little romance, and heartwarming family connections that bring a series to its end. If you enjoy family dramas with suspenseful elements and character growth, I recommend this entire series. I recommend it, especially to fans of women's fiction who enjoy family-focused stories and secrets from the past.

About the Book

murdered boy. Tortoiseshell eyeglasses. A letter written by a young man to another that reads like a lover's spat. One portable Underwood typewriter. Two confessions.

Will Babe and Manny live or die?

It's the early 1920s and arrogant teenagers Noah "Babe" Lieberman and Roman "Manny" Loewe have it all: money, brains, freedom. They reside in the same affluent Chicago neighborhood, come from successful, respectable families, and enjoy privileged lives. Both are intelligent prodigies who graduated high school early. But Roman, an extrovert, is handsome and popular whereas Noah is average-looking and spends most of his time with birds and books. After meeting, they embark on a wild journey of vandalism, burglary, and arson. Their personal relationship escalates, and their criminal acts morph into more sinister behavior as the two flout the laws of the "common" man and live their version of the Übermensch, or "superman" as defined by Friedrich Nietzsche.

One hundred years ago, the world was stunned to learn that Nathan Leopold and Richard Loeb, two wealthy, brilliant university students, had confessed to kidnapping and murdering fourteen-year-old Bobby Franks. Why did Leopold and Loeb do it? For "pure love of excitement, or the imaginary love of thrills, doing something different," they said.

D.L. Scarpe's Übermensch fictionalizes the Leopold and Loeb case, focusing on the reason why the gifted teenagers' lives took such an unexpected turn, destroyed three families, and captivated the country in what was dubbed at the time as the "crime of the century."

About the Author

D.L. Scarpe has always had stories rattling around inside her head, locked up tight, only set free on those endless childhood nights spent swapping tales with her best friend. The story-weaving continued into adulthood–her little secret. However, raising a family; managing a household; building retaining walls, patios, or fire pits from stones (rock “jigsaw puzzles”); refinishing oak floors and furniture; or helping her husband on a roof–although she tried to pay attention when on a roof–kept her too busy for that other side of her to come out. So, it remained a secret.

But kids grow up and bodies get too tired for physical labor, and now it’s time to pursue her own passions and dreams. Working on her bucket list, she picked three things that make her happy, and she’s pursuing them all with no apologies:

Writing.

Shoes.

Tattoos.

My Review

The Axe Packs A Lot of Action into a Short Space. The story is short, with the written version hitting only eight chapters and 66 pages. The author packs a lot of action and dialogue into the short space. The action and suspense launch immediately, and the pace carries through to the last few pages. The gnawing suspense keeps readers engaged and invested in finishing the mystery puzzle and hearing the pieces lock into place.

The Author's Writing Style Works Well in the Audiobook Format. The novel is very dialogue-driven and the plot is more psychological drama than convoluted mystery. The storyline is simple, with only a few characters, and the author leaves enough breadcrumbs that readers will expect the ending. Having said that, readers should expect to become engaged enough in the dramatic scenes that they will be invested in the main characters' stories through the last page.

The Narration Creates an Emotional Journey in a Short Space. The narrator successfully gave each character a distinct voice that pulled readers into the emotional, dramatic story. There was never a point in the story when I couldn't "hear" which character was "speaking."

Would I Recommend The Axe by Linda Griffin? I didn't find the first part of the story very realistic, so it took a bit for me to settle into the book. If you are seeking a technical, convoluted mystery with deeply developed characters--this short novel is not that book. However, if you focus on the psychological drama and the character interactions, the novel is very engaging and interesting. You will solve the mystery before the end, but still have plenty of reasons to stay invested in the novel's outcomes. It's a simple, easy-to-understand story that will hold reader or listener interest to the end. The novel's subject matter is a difficult one, but it creates a very engaging, dramatic storyline here.
