Fern Book Review and Book Tour Giveaway

This morning, I have a historical romance in our review spotlight. Today, I am sharing Fern, the first book of The Montgomery Sister series.  I have also had the opportunity to read and review the other two books of the series and will also be sharing those reviews later this week.  What did I think of Fern by Kat Flannery?

Book Title: Fern (The Montgomery Sisters Book 1) by Kat Flannery
Category: Historical western romance, 182 pages
Genre: Adult Non-Fiction

About the Book

Can one woman heal the heart of a lawman? A gardener who uses plants to heal, Fern Montgomery is an outcast who refuses to be pushed out of town. When her friend is murdered and all fingers point to Fern as the only suspect, she must find a way to prove her innocence while fighting off unwanted feelings for the sheriff. Sheriff Gabe Bennett has his mind set on arresting Sarah Fuller’s killer. But his key suspect isn’t what he expected. He soon realizes there is more to the quiet gardener than he’d first anticipated. As passion blooms, Gabe is forced to face his feelings—and the woman who has stolen his heart.

My Review

Great Introduction to the Series.  The author does a wonderful job, in a short time, to introduce her series, create a believable setting and develop strong characters for the trilogy.  Although the book is short, Flannery is able to transport readers to the old West and create a full story with mystery, life challenges and a romance for her main character.

Flannery Creates a Page Turner for Readers.  While the actual mystery is wrapped up fairly quickly and is easily solved--the author does create characters that capture reader interest.  The plot isn't complicated; but, readers will find enough twists and subplots to keep reading through to the end.

Would I Recommend Fern by Kat Flannery?   I enjoyed Fern's character--and I enjoyed meeting her sisters and learning about their lives within the setting.  The author creates a historical romance with a mystery--and tells Fern's story within a short time.  Having said that, readers will find all of the pieces of Fern's story resolved as the interest in Poppy and Ivy grows.  Fern is a quick easy read that is suitable for teens and adults alike.  Everything was wrapped up--and the romance developed quickly--but, not in an entirely unbelievable fashion.  Fans of historical romance novels will find a well developed story with strong characters.  I look forward to sharing my thoughts on the other two books of the series later this week!
