About the Book

Other families pass down their stories, Kate Earnshaw’s family’s secrets disappear from one generation to the next. Kate Earnshaw's father's suicide has left many unanswered questions. In handling his estate she wonders if she ever really knew him. He never explained why he let his childhood home in Eastern Colorado fall into ruin or why he'd kept the property a secret. And he never told Kate about his close friendship with Evan Hastings, the handsome and somewhat puzzling man who lives on the property near the abandoned house. Evan seems to have as many secrets as her father and knows more about him than Kate did. But there’s something about Evan that calls her back to her father’s home. Something that threatens to unearth more than the past. Legacy of Secrets explores family secrets, a daughter's grief and her search for answers, and a chance for love.

My Review

The author creates an engaging romantic suspense. I am generally pretty critical of romance novels--I am not a huge fan. For me to enjoy a romance novel--there has to be more to the story. The author does a great job creating an engaging story to fill in the mysterious pieces of Kate's family's past and secrets. I enjoyed watching the characters move through the twists, turns, and revelations of this book. It took some time for me to accept the character romance storyline--but I enjoyed watching their lives grow and connect as the stories unfolded.

Expect an instant romance and an unlikely couple. The "instant romance" angle was not realistic, and I found myself continuing the first half of the story only to see the family secrets revealed rather than the match made in Heaven. I liked Evan's character--but I was not fond of Kate's personality much until nearly the end of the book. I didn't really feel that she and Evan had a very realistic connection until near the end of the book.

Would I recommend Legacy of Secrets. While I didn't love the initial love connection--I really liked the suspense side of the story with the revelations from the Earnshaw's family history. The author creates a very well organized family mystery with twists and turns to keep readers engaged--and the instant romance turns into something a little more realistic over time. If you enjoy family dramas and suspenseful stories that weave secrets and hidden pasts with a growing romance--this is an engaging story that romantic suspense fans will enjoy.
