Braidy Von Althuis and the Gullible Ghost Hunter Can Be Read as a Stand-Alone Story. The author does a great job developing her characters for new readers and sharing bits of the adventures from the previous book of the series--so, there wasn't a point when we felt like we had missed too much from the first book. However, my kids always preferred (and still prefer) to read a book series from the beginning. Since it seems that this series may highlight different characters along the way--reading from the start would help readers form more character bonds and understand some of the references to past characters and happenings. So, while Braidy Von Althuis and the Gullible Ghost Hunter Can Be Read as a Stand-Alone Story--I would begin with the beginning.
Would I recommend Braidy Von Althuis and the Gullible Ghost Hunter by Cassidy Dwelis? This book is a quick, easy to read, fun paranormal story for younger middle school readers. It is age-appropriate for the audience and gives just enough wacky, supernatural happenings and humor to balance the life lessons and family values presented as the characters face their dilemmas. The quirky characters and the importance of family will excite readers for the next adventure! If your middle schooler loves paranormal and fantasy tales that are age-appropriate, clean, and less mature than the usual young adult novels of the genre--this series is a fun one that I would recommend.
