Braidy Von Althuis and the Final Fight is a Great Paranormal Adventure for Middle-Grade Readers. I love the author's writing style. She offers books that are simplistic and entertaining enough for younger readers--but developed enough for adults to read along with them as well. This book is evenly paced, is easy to follow, and entertains through a fun blend of humor, life lessons, and fantasy adventures. Readers will enjoy the unique characters and family bond that gives the Von Althuis adventures a storyline beyond paranormal action-adventure.
Braidy Von Althuis and the Final Fight Can Be Read as a Stand-Alone Story. Although I skipped around in the series with the books that I chose to review--and it seemed as though many events transpired in book four--the author does very well in recapping the previous books of the series to new readers. I never felt lost or left behind by not reading the books in order--I think I would have enjoyed this final book more if I had read the entire series. So, while Braidy Von Althuis and the Final Fight Can Be Read as a Stand-Alone Story--I would begin with the beginning so that this final book brings more closure to the series.
Would I recommend Braidy Von Althuis and the Final Fight by Cassidy Dwelis? As with the other book that I have read from the series, this book is a quick, easy to read, fun paranormal story for younger middle school readers. I love that it is age-appropriate for the audience. Braidy Von Althuis and the Final Fight offers a great blend of paranormal fantasy fiction with some real-world, valid life lessons and highlights family values throughout the story. I would recommend reading the books in order as a series. My girls and I always read chapter-books aloud when they were in elementary school--and this one would have been perfect for that style of reading. If your older elementary/younger middle school-aged children love paranormal and fantasy tales and you prefer that they be age-appropriate, clean, and family-oriented--even if the Von Althuis "family" is not your typical family--this series is a fun one that I would recommend.
