About the Book

The Wilderness Spa brings people from three quite different sources together to survive catastrophe in the Alaskan wilderness. They amaze themselves in their ability to coalesce and work cohesively in the face of hunger, injury, insecurity, and possible death. With that on their minds, they explore statistics, logic, social justice, and challenges to philosophies and social norms.

After rocky starts when new members enter the group, they learn to find the best in their fellow travelers, how to help, follow, and lead when necessary. Nothing is ever easy. Without attacking each other, they dig deep to reconcile their differences.

Join the group as they make the best of what they have. Struggle along with them and reconcile your own philosophical belief systems with logic and science.
My Review

The Wilderness Spa brings readers an exciting story with wonderful characters. The author does a beautiful job developing his storyline and characters as their worlds unexpectedly collide in a fight for survival. The story flows well from the very first few pages--with a series of unfortunate events that create challenges and struggles for the mismatched group of characters the plot pulls together.

Readers Should Expect a Deep Look at Human Nature.  The characters joining forces in this novel come from diverse backgrounds--but indeed join together as they learn and grow in character and strength to face the challenges at hand. Conversations and backstories bring the characters to life and keep the story grounded in enough realism to allow readers to understand, sympathize, empathize and root for each group member.

Would I Recommend The Wildnerness Spa by Jim Halverson? One of my favorite quotes has always been: "A woman is like a tea bag; you never know how strong it is until it's in hot water."--Eleanor Roosevelt. This book certainly throws each character into "hot water" in realistic fights for survival. Halverson allows each character the opportunity to find individual strengths--and come to terms with deep-rooted beliefs, pasts and weaknesses. I would recommend the book to fans of adventure dramas that delve deeper into human nature and the values of developing relationships and growing as individuals.
