The story is told in Jamie's irreverent voice and blends two timelines--that of Jamie's young years with her teenage soulmate, then her troubled marriage and ensuing Hollywood affair.
Love Madly Gives Readers a Realistic, Relatable Story. I love Tracey Hooker's writing style. She gave this novel a memoir-like feel as her main character shared pieces of her present and past along with her thoughts and emotions. Jamie's story is offered in a believable, realistic, easy-to-read, gently flowing manner that feels too realistic and relatable to be fiction. I even checked to see if I had picked up a memoir instead of a women's fiction novel! Maybe it is just my just-passed-a-milestone-birthday state of life reflection--or some random coincidences--, but I found some of Jamie's story all too relatable. I cried a little occasionally--and, indeed, rooted for a happy, love-filled ending for her!
Expect Characters to Love--and Hate--and an Ending That Stays with You Beyond the Last Page. The author tells Jamie's story in a way that makes the characters lovable-- or dis-likable. Almost immediately. Finding a soulmate is one element of life that many of us never see. Jamie's story of love and life lingers in readers' hearts long after the last page.
Would I Recommend Love Madly? This novel does not have a sappy happy ending--or even necessarily a fictionalized perfect ending. However, if you enjoy reading a realistic, relatable lifelong love/life story--this one should be on your reading list. I loved the author's storytelling and the memoir-feel that made this my favorite book so far this year.
