Book Review: Trusting God A Girlfriends in God Faith Adventure

Do you have trust issues? When I first heard this question, I responded with a roll of the eyes. Women have trust issues? How is your personal trust in God? Life events often test our trust in Him. I was interested to read Trusting God: A Girlfriends in God Faith Adventure as the writers embarked on a 12 week devotional intended to help readers regain and reaffirm a trust in God—step by step. What was our review of Trusting God: A Girlfriends in God Faith Adventure Review?

I received a complimentary ebook copy of this book for use in my review. All opinions are my own.

About the Book

Trusting God: A Girlfriends in God Faith Adventure is a collaboration of Sharon Jaynes, Gwen Smith and Mary Southerland. The three women comprise Girlfriends in God—a non-denominational devotional ministry that offers online devotionals, conferences and speaking engagements reaching hundreds of thousands of readers daily. In Trusting God, the 12 week devotional study consists of daily devotionals written by each woman intended to strengthen the reader’s trust in God. Trusting God: A Girlfriends in God Faith Adventure gets personal. The authors share real life stories in each daily devotional. We follow these ladies through their own personal experiences, as they reflect on their own lives and relay times when their trust in God was tested. The book is written, as promised, from the points of view of three girlfriends—for girlfriends. The book does not preach, it encourages—just as your real world girlfriends encourage.

My Review

Should you read it quickly or as a 12 week study? Initially, I began reading through several days in each sitting. Then, life happened, and my daily readings shortened to a passage a day. I think the 12 week study is a fantastic use of this book. In my own life, 12 weeks brought many life events—some of which truly tested my strength and trust. This past week, one of my daughters lost a friend to a tragic accident, and I found myself trying to help a group of young ladies come to terms with the shocking loss—trying to help them keep the faith and trust in God. I needed the support of Trusting God: A Girlfriends in God Faith Adventure over those days.

Journaling and reflection activities yield additional benefit. Journal and group study questions help bring Trusting God: A Girlfriends in God Faith Adventure to you and your own group of girlfriends. If you prefer to venture alone, the exercises also help encourage you to more deeply explore your personal relationship with God. Whether you opt to use the exercises alone or as a group, they encourage you to reflect and explore trust and faith.

Would I recommend Trusting God: A Girlfriends in God Faith Adventure. Sometimes we all need time for reflection—especially during difficult times. I think virtually anyone facing challenges or helping others through tough situations will find comfort in this 12 week devotional. I would recommend reading it and rereading it, over time. Every time that I pick up the book, I discover a new favorite segment—depending on the events surrounding me on a given day. There is always a positive take-away from my readings, and that makes this a special book from which I feel anyone may benefit.
