Political Thriller Release Blitz: The Vote by David Swanson

Political thrillers often focus on the people fighting for office. David Swanson's The Vote: A Story of Political Peril looks beyond the campaign trail to something more consequential: the machinery that determines how American government can be changed. At the center of the novel is a coordinated effort involving wealthy conspirators, political operatives, candidates, state legislatures, and Congress, with the Article V constitutional amendment process providing the framework for an attempt to permanently reshape the country's political system.

That focus gives the novel a particularly unsettling premise. The threat does not depend upon abandoning the political system but upon understanding it well enough to manipulate it. Released today by Mission Point Press, The Vote places money, political influence, and constitutional procedure inside the same conspiracy—and asks what might happen when the people pursuing power are thinking far beyond the next election.

A Story of Political Peril

Fiction

Date Published: 09-10-2026

Publisher: Mission Point Press

༺ ABOUT THE BOOK ༻

A cautionary political tale that shines a light on the danger to our country when the wrong people have too much money and power.

The Vote is a political thriller built around a conspiracy among powerful political actors, billionaires, and party operatives who seek to manipulate the constitutional amendment process in order to permanently reshape the structure of American government. The mechanics of American politics, particularly the Article V constitutional amendment process, is the framework that informs the central premise of the novel. The current political landscape of the country lends credibility to the story and gives the narrative an interesting and timely foundation.

The manuscript opens with a series of interconnected storylines involving political figures, wealthy conspirators, and emerging state-level candidates. These threads gradually reveal a coordinated effort to gain control of state legislatures and Congress as part of a broader plan to fundamentally alter the country’s political system. The concept itself is ambitious and grounded in recognizable political realities.

༺ WHY READ THIS BOOK ༻

The constitutional amendment process gives The Vote a distinctive foundation for its conspiracy. Article V is not simply political background; it is the mechanism that makes control of state legislatures and Congress essential to the conspirators' larger objective. The stakes therefore extend beyond a single candidate, party, or election cycle. Swanson's premise is concerned with who controls the rules themselves—and what can happen when enormous private wealth is paired with a sophisticated understanding of how those rules can be changed.

The novel's interconnected storylines add another dimension by following political figures, wealthy conspirators, and emerging state-level candidates as the larger plan begins to emerge. Readers interested in how money, institutional power, and political strategy intersect will find the mechanics of the conspiracy as important as the people carrying it out.

༺ WHO WILL LOVE IT ༻

The Vote is suited to political-thriller readers who are as interested in the machinery of government as they are in the people trying to control it. Its use of Article V, state legislatures, congressional power, and coordinated political strategy gives the conspiracy an institutional focus rather than relying on a threat operating entirely outside the political system.

It should also speak to readers drawn to fiction about the influence of extreme wealth on public institutions. Billionaires and party operatives occupy the same political landscape as candidates and legislators here, making the relationship between money and formal authority part of the central tension. Those who enjoy following multiple storylines as separate pieces gradually reveal a larger plan will find that structure at the heart of Swanson's novel.

༺ ABOUT THE AUTHOR ༻

David Swanson was raised on a dairy farm in central Michigan. He received a degree in political science from the University of Puget Sound and an advanced degree in foreign trade from the Thunderbird Graduate School of International Management. Between degrees, he served a stint in the United States Navy.

In 1981, he founded Daavlin, a medical technology company that eventually grew into a prominent player in the field of dermatology. As part of his career, he stepped foot on every continent and dipped his toes in every ocean on earth. Reading, writing, traveling, acting, and directing live theater are his favored pastimes.

He’s also a lifetime political junkie. As this book goes to press, Swanson is a candidate for the Ohio House of Representatives.

༺LAST WORD ༻

The most provocative element of The Vote is the way its conspiracy turns constitutional procedure into the source of danger. The people seeking control are not portrayed as outsiders trying to demolish the political system from a distance; their strategy depends upon elections, legislatures, Congress, money, and the amendment process already built into American government. That distinction makes the novel's central question larger than who holds office at a particular moment.

Swanson's combination of concentrated wealth and institutional power gives today's release a sharp point of tension: political rules offer stability only as long as the people using them respect what those rules are meant to protect. For readers interested in a thriller that puts constitutional mechanics directly inside its conspiracy, The Vote approaches political peril from an unusually specific angle.

Speculative Historical Fiction Release Blitz: Uprising by J.E. Rizzo

England in 1381 is already straining under taxation and unrest when Blanche Fitzjohn finds herself caught on both sides of the widening divide. In Uprising, J.E. Rizzo gives that historical conflict an unusual perspective through an illegitimate daughter of John of Gaunt whose heightened hearing and ability to smell emotion make her an outsider even before politics place her in danger. Blanche's loyalty to England's villeins, her connection to the ruling family, an unwanted marriage, and abilities she has regarded as a curse converge as rebellion moves from discontent to open revolt.

Book One of the Fitzjohn Duology

Historical Fiction with Speculative and Romantic Elements

Date Published: 09-01-2026

Publisher: Literary Wanderlust

༺ ABOUT THE BOOK ༻

England, 1381 AD: Blanche Fitzjohn is an outcast in her small coastal village. Not only is she the illegitimate daughter of John of Gaunt, the man responsible for her neighbors’ over-taxation, but she possesses strange abilities: hearing sound from miles away and smelling people’s emotions.

She takes solace in her studies with the local wisewoman and in her friendship with Geoff, a groom at the local manor. Until the day Henry of Lancaster, Blanche’s half-brother, brings her news of an arranged marriage to Sir Thomas Prescott, Constable of the Tower of London. Although she smells cruelty on him, Blanche agrees to marry Thomas in the hopes that her influence may help better the lives of Geoff and all England’s villeins.

But soon, the peasants’ discontent turns to revolt. Though her heart is of the people, Blanche’s nobility makes her an enemy to the rebels. To save herself and Henry from the executioner’s ax, Blanche must use every power at her disposal, even those she once considered a curse.

༺ WHY READ THIS BOOK ༻

Blanche Fitzjohn occupies a particularly difficult place in the conflict at the center of Uprising. She is connected by blood to John of Gaunt and the nobility, yet her sympathies lie with the villeins suffering under the conditions that fuel the revolt. Her decision to accept a marriage to Sir Thomas Prescott in the hope of improving their lives makes that divided allegiance personal long before the rebellion threatens her own survival.

Rizzo adds another layer through Blanche's extraordinary senses. Hearing sounds from miles away and smelling people's emotions could easily function as simple advantages, but Blanche has regarded these abilities as a curse. When political danger forces her to depend upon the very traits that have helped make her an outcast, the speculative element becomes directly tied to her struggle for survival. That combination of medieval unrest, divided loyalties, an arranged marriage, and unusual sensory abilities gives the historical setting a distinctive tension.

༺ WHO WILL LOVE IT ༻

Uprising should appeal to historical fiction readers who like real periods of political upheaval filtered through the life of a character with competing loyalties. Blanche's connection to John of Gaunt places her near power while her friendship with Geoff and concern for England's villeins pull her toward those rebelling against it. Readers interested in medieval England, class conflict, and heroines forced to navigate dangerous social boundaries will find those tensions central to the story.

The novel also offers something different for readers who enjoy historical fiction with speculative and romantic elements. Blanche's heightened senses operate alongside her studies with a local wisewoman, while her arranged marriage to Thomas and friendship with Geoff complicate an already precarious position. Readers who prefer their history blended with an element that pushes just beyond the strictly historical should be especially well matched to this first book of the Fitzjohn Duology.

༺ ABOUT THE AUTHOR ༻

J.E. Rizzo is a life-long history fanatic and writer of historical fiction, and her work can be found in Vanity Fair, The Boston Globe, The Guardian, The Tudor Times, Tudor Life Magazine, Scary Mommy, and Ultrarunning Magazine. Rizzo won Manuscript Academy’s Agent Choice Award in 2024, and her article Past and Precedence: Abortion Law in the Middle Ages and Its Use to Overturn Roe v. Wade won History Inquiry’s Medieval History Writing Challenge.

By day, Rizzo works in Human Resources—a field offering more than ample opportunity to observe the follies and fancies of humankind. Before her career in HR, Rizzo worked as an opera singer, a professional baker, and a dog walker. These days, when not writing she can be found running ultramarathons through the forests and mountains of New England, knitting, reading, sewing, baking, or performing any number of (what some might call) old-lady hobbies. She also keeps busing caring for her two children and forty-seven houseplants, making her husband carry heavy things and cook her gourmet meals, and rehabilitating her rescue dog and semi-feral ginger cat.

༺ LAST WORD ༻

Blanche's position makes Uprising particularly intriguing: the revolt threatens her because of the noble blood that has already helped make her an outcast among the people whose suffering she understands. Her attempt to use an arranged marriage to improve the lives of others further complicates the usual boundaries between privilege and powerlessness. By the time rebellion places Blanche and Henry in danger of execution, those divided loyalties can no longer remain theoretical.

Her strange abilities sharpen that conflict in an equally personal way. The senses Blanche once considered a curse may become essential when ordinary social protections fail her. Bringing that speculative thread into the upheaval of 1381 gives Rizzo a distinctive way to explore belonging, power, and survival—and leaves Blanche facing a world in which neither her family name nor her sympathies can guarantee which side will claim her as its enemy.

Inspirational Book Release Blitz: No Straight Lines to the Stars by Ken Kisco

A childhood dream of reaching space might seem far removed from the daily vigilance of a Southern California lifeguard, yet Ken Kisco’s path connects those worlds through the same habits of preparation, composure, and responsibility. In No Straight Lines to the Stars, Kisco traces an unconventional route from beach rescues to aerospace systems engineering, examining the professional opportunities, personal disappointments, and acts of perseverance that shaped a career connected to major space and defense programs. His story offers a grounded look at ambition without pretending that purpose arrives through a neat sequence of victories.

No Straight Lines to the Stars

An Unlikely Journey from Lifeguard Tower to Launchpad

by Ken Kisco

Genre: Narrative Nonfiction / Inspirational

Date Published: August 4, 2026

Publisher: Acorn Publishing

༺ ABOUT THE BOOK ༻

No Straight Lines to the Stars is the inspiring true story of a young lifeguard who dared to believe his life could reach far beyond the horizon.

On the beaches of Southern California, Ken Kisco learned that preparation saves lives. From rip-current rescues to split-second emergencies, he discovered that courage is not the absence of fear, but the decision to act in spite of it. Those early lessons in resilience and composure pushed Ken to believe he could accomplish anything . . . including his lifelong dream of reaching the stars.

Through relentless perseverance and unwavering faith, Ken rose into the heart of America’s most advanced space and defense programs, contributing to human spaceflight initiatives and supporting groundbreaking technologies. His unusual start as a lifeguard helped advance his career, distinguishing him from his Air Force and Navy peers. Yet, his toughest challenges were personal—he faced deep disappointment when a space mission was canceled and learned lessons about trust and integrity from a romance-turned-ruse.

Ken’s journey reveals that success is rarely linear. Setbacks became launchpads, adversity became refinement, and purpose became a compass. Part memoir, part inspiration, and part behind-the-scenes look at America’s quest for the stars, this is the unforgettable story of a man who proves that bold dreams, combined with grit and heart, can launch an ordinary life into an extraordinary one.

༺ WHY READ THIS BOOK ༻

Kisco’s starting point distinguishes this memoir from a conventional account of an aerospace career. His years as a lifeguard taught him to assess danger, prepare for emergencies, and make decisions while other lives depended on his response. Those lessons later became part of the professional foundation he carried into complex space and defense work.

The book also refuses to present success as a direct ascent from childhood ambition to professional achievement. A canceled space mission, career uncertainty, and a personal betrayal interrupt the forward momentum, giving Kisco room to examine what remains when a carefully imagined future changes without permission.

That combination of technical ambition and personal reflection makes the story useful to readers beyond the aerospace community. The central question is not simply how Kisco entered advanced engineering programs, but how he continued to move toward meaningful work when the next step was uncertain, disappointing, or entirely different from the one he had planned.

༺ WHO WILL LOVE IT ༻

No Straight Lines to the Stars will appeal to readers interested in narrative nonfiction, aerospace history, human spaceflight, engineering careers, and personal accounts of unconventional professional development. Students and early-career professionals may find particular value in a story that connects long-term ambition with the less visible work of preparation, persistence, and adaptation.

The book may also resonate with readers navigating a major setback or an unexpected change in direction. Kisco’s experiences suggest that a disrupted plan does not necessarily erase the larger purpose behind it; sometimes the skills gained along the way become valuable in a role that could not have been predicted at the beginning.

༺ ABOUT THE AUTHOR ༻

At ten years old, Ken Kisco dreamed of becoming a rocket scientist, a goal that shaped his life. He earned multiple degrees, including master's degrees from the University of Southern California in systems management and from San Jose State University in industrial psychology.

As an aerospace systems engineer for NASA, Rockwell International, and Boeing, he developed new technologies and earned recognition as an American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) Fellow.

Ken now shares his passion by mentoring USC engineering students, inspiring them to dream boldly. When not traveling, he and his wife enjoy San Diego's beaches, where they live.

༺ LAST WORD ༻

The title No Straight Lines to the Stars captures more than an unusual résumé. Kisco’s movement from a lifeguard tower into aerospace engineering depended on skills developed before he entered a launch environment, while some of the experiences he expected to define his future disappeared through circumstances beyond his control. His memoir places those detours beside the achievements rather than treating them as irrelevant interruptions. For readers facing a future that no longer resembles the original plan, Kisco’s story offers a measured reminder that preparation, integrity, and persistence can continue to shape a meaningful direction even when the route changes.

Suspense Release Blitz: Only Angels Have Blue Eyes by J. Todd Kingrea

Maylin Cole arrives at Heaven’s Hope carrying the exhaustion of an abusive relationship and the hope that safety might finally be within reach. The clinic offers shelter, certainty, and a new identity, but its promises begin to harden into rules, surveillance, and separation from her four-year-old daughter. Only Angels Have Blue Eyes builds its unease through the slow normalization of control, asking how quickly protection can become captivity when trust is placed in the wrong hands.

Horror / Suspense

Date Published: August 3, 2026

༺ ABOUT THE BOOK ༻

Things are looking up for Maylin Cole and her 4-year-old daughter, Margo. Fleeing an abusive relationship, the private clinic Heaven’s Hope offers shelter and the promise of a new life. Led by the charismatic and beguiling Seraph Nakir, they learn a surprising truth: they’re actually angels who have lost their way.

Everyone has an angel name and is being prepared to ‘ascend’ when the time is right. Their angelic identities will play a significant role in aiding humanity when the world ends.

As the weeks pass, Maylin becomes accustomed to the peculiar confrontational therapy. The black curtains and bars on the windows no longer trouble her. The lack of privacy, mystifying theology, and strange rules become commonplace. She sees Margo less frequently since the children are kept in the basement.

The death of another patient awakens Maylin to dark secrets within the walls, and soon the horrifying truth about Nakir and Heaven’s Hope is revealed. Maylin must confront her insecurities, rediscover her individuality, and use her wits and resources if she hopes to save Margo and the other children.

Inspired by a true crime case, this slow-burn thriller roars to a pulse-pounding climax, reminding the reader to think independently, ask questions, and be careful who you trust.

༺ WHY READ THIS BOOK ༻

The threat in Only Angels Have Blue Eyes grows through accommodation rather than sudden attack. Black curtains, barred windows, restricted privacy, and limited access to Margo become part of Maylin’s daily routine before she fully recognizes what they mean. That gradual shift gives the suspense its force because the danger is tied to the way coercive systems teach people to distrust their own judgment.

Maylin’s relationship with Margo also gives the story a clear emotional center. Her struggle is not only to uncover what Heaven’s Hope is hiding, but to recover the independence and confidence she will need to protect her daughter. The angelic theology, apocalyptic promises, and confrontational therapy create a setting where spiritual language is used to conceal control, making the novel as concerned with manipulation as it is with escape.

༺ WHO WILL LOVE IT ༻

This novel is suited to readers drawn to slow-building psychological horror in which ordinary compromises accumulate into something far more sinister. The closed environment of Heaven’s Hope, its charismatic leader, and its carefully controlled belief system will appeal to those interested in stories about cult dynamics, coercion, and the erosion of personal autonomy.

It will also speak to suspense readers who prefer a strong emotional stake beneath the mystery. Maylin’s urgency comes from her need to reach Margo and the other children, while the story’s escalating tension depends on whether she can begin trusting her own instincts again before the clinic completes its hold over her.

༺ LAST WORD ༻

Only Angels Have Blue Eyes examines the moment when a promise of rescue becomes another form of control. Maylin’s path out of Heaven’s Hope depends on more than recognizing Nakir’s deception; she must reclaim the judgment and individuality that the clinic has steadily trained her to surrender. By grounding its horror in isolation, unquestioned authority, and the forced separation of a mother from her child, the novel turns its central warning into something immediate: trust should never require the abandonment of doubt.

Mystery Romance Release Blitz: A Deadly Inferno Consumes by Sophie Barnes

A missing noblewoman, whispers of an illicit auction, and a vengeful enemy force Adrian Croft to confront two dangers at once in A Deadly Inferno Consumes. The sixth House of Croft mystery places its investigation inside London’s criminal underworld while raising the personal stakes for Adrian and Samantha, whose newborn daughter gives them more to protect—and more that can be used against them.

A Deadly Inferno Consumes

Sophie Barnes

House of Croft, Book 6

Genre: Murder Mystery Romance

Date Published: July 28, 2026

༺ ABOUT THE BOOK ༻

A chilling disappearance, a lethal enemy, and a family pushed to the brink…

When the Duke of Wrengate’s sister vanishes without a trace, suspicion swirls. Did she flee to escape a scandalous secret…or has she been abducted? Whispers lead to a treacherous underworld, where rumors of an illicit auction suggest a far more sinister fate: a woman trapped, drugged, and enslaved. Determined to save her, Adrian Croft and his valet, Murry, plunge into London’s darkest corners.

But Finn O’Leary, the Irishman bent on revenge, remains a threat that presents a difficult choice for Adrian: save Wrengate's sister or protect his family. With the recent birth of his daughter, he and his wife, Samantha, have more to lose than ever before. And as danger closes in, they must fight with everything they have. Not only for justice, but for their very survival.

༺ WHY READ THIS BOOK ༻

A Deadly Inferno Consumes binds its mystery to a painful conflict of loyalties. Adrian cannot pursue the missing woman without risking the wife and infant daughter who now depend on him, yet abandoning the investigation could condemn another family to an unthinkable loss. That pressure gives the search a personal urgency beyond solving a disappearance.

The suspected auction also shifts the investigation away from drawing rooms and respectable society into a criminal network built on secrecy, coercion, and exploitation. Murry’s presence beside Adrian adds another layer to the inquiry, while Finn O’Leary’s continuing pursuit ensures that the danger is never limited to a single case. For readers following the House of Croft series, this installment brings an established enemy into direct conflict with Adrian’s changed life as a husband and father.

༺ WHO WILL LOVE IT ༻

This release is suited to readers who prefer historical romance with an active mystery plot, recurring adversaries, and consequences that extend beyond the central couple. The search through London’s darker corners will appeal to those drawn to investigations involving hidden criminal enterprises, while Adrian’s impossible choice gives the story particular weight for readers invested in family loyalty and protective heroes.

Established House of Croft readers will find the strongest connection here, especially those following Adrian, Samantha, Murry, and the unresolved threat posed by Finn O’Leary. Newcomers interested in the premise can still expect a blend of danger, marital devotion, and historical suspense, though the continuing relationships and conflict make this sixth installment especially meaningful within the larger series.

༺ ABOUT THE AUTHOR ༻

USA TODAY bestselling author Sophie Barnes writes historical romance novels in which the characters break away from social expectations in their quest for happiness and love. Having written for Avon, an imprint of Harper Collins, her books have been published internationally in eight languages. With a fondness for travel, Sophie has lived in six countries, on three continents, and speaks English, Danish, French, Spanish, and Romanian with varying degrees of fluency. When she’s not busy dreaming up her next swoon worthy romance novel, Sophie enjoys spending time with her family, practicing yoga, baking, gardening, watching romantic comedies and, of course, reading.

༺ LAST WORD ༻

The most compelling element of A Deadly Inferno Consumes is the cost attached to every possible decision. Saving Wrengate’s sister may expose Adrian’s own family to Finn O’Leary, but retreat would leave a vulnerable woman in the hands of men who view her as property. That moral pressure, combined with the Crofts’ new responsibilities as parents, gives this release a sharper emotional edge than a mystery built around clues alone.

Sophie Barnes brings the House of Croft series to a dangerous crossroads on its July 28 release date. Readers who have followed Adrian and Samantha will see how marriage and parenthood have altered the risks they are willing to take—without weakening their determination to confront cruelty and pursue justice.

about the book

Murder Is the Ultimate Power Move

When a beautiful Atlanta woman is widowed twice under suspicious circumstances, Ann Audrey Pickering finds herself drawn—once again—into someone else’s trouble.

A former lawyer who once helped the FBI convict her own husband for fraud, Ann Audrey has settled into a reclusive life, until her longtime friend Flynn Reynolds asks for help. His elderly aunts are convinced that another nephew was murdered by his wife, Kathryn, whose second husband is now also dead. Ann Audrey is skeptical. Still, she owes Flynn, and there are some odd questions. Complicating matters is Kathryn’s latest mother-in-law, a woman who rose from an impoverished background into Atlanta’s upper circles and recognizes a kindred spirit in her dead son’s ambitious widow. She doesn’t believe Kathryn is a murderer—but she has heard rumors, and she wants them stopped.

Set in Atlanta in January 2000, as the city buzzes with anticipation for the upcoming Super Bowl, Ann Audrey searches for the black widow through the city’s frenetic bar scene, private clubs, high-rise offices, and beloved local institutions like Mary Mac’s Tea Room and The Varsity. With help from Flynn and her friend Theo, along with the return of sexy detective Mike Bristol, she pieces together a twisting story of social climbing, carefully managed appearances, marriage, and murder. As the Super Bowl kickoff draws near, the case reaches a climax when an ice storm shuts down Atlanta’s roads and power, leaving secrets and murderers with nowhere to hide.
