Memoir Release Blitz: Fluent in Faux Pas by Daniela Hristova

Language can be a passport, a barrier, and occasionally the reason an ordinary workday goes spectacularly sideways. In Fluent in Faux Pas: A Guide to Accidentally Getting Everything Wrong, Daniela Hristova looks back on arriving in England with two degrees, professional experience, and almost none of the English she needed to explain either one. Her memoir follows the jobs, misunderstandings, cultural collisions, and unexpected encounters that became part of building a new life in the UK. Beneath the linguistic mishaps is another story altogether: one about starting over when the person you know yourself to be cannot yet be fully expressed in the language everyone around you understands.

Fluent in Faux Pas

A Guide to Accidentally Getting Everything Wrong

Memoir, Non-Fiction

Date Published: September 7, 2026

༺ ABOUT THE BOOK ༻

Two degrees. Zero English.

A night shift in an abandoned psychiatric hospital.

You learn to laugh. Fast.

Arriving in England for a fresh start, the author quickly discovers that the English language is a minefield of polite confusion, baffling idioms, and linguistic traps. Without the vocabulary to express who she is, daily life becomes a high-stakes game of translation roulette at the absolute bottom of the career ladder.

Spanning decades through the beating heart of the British workforce—from factory lines and catering at Heathrow to securing film sets and government buildings—her biggest opponent isn't the long hours; it's the English dictionary.

Navigating professional environments with a mismatched vocabulary leads to spectacular, unintentional blunders. From mixing up sound-alike words to translating idioms far too literally, every shift becomes a lesson in how easily things get lost in translation.

Yet, behind the comedy lies a deeply personal struggle: the quiet isolation of startingcover. When pressure peaks, remarkable encounters and a profound return to faith offer a path to true transformation.

Fluent in Faux Pas is a warm, witty, and wonderfully honest memoir—a celebratory story of resilience and an inspiring reminder that the best parts of life are often found when we are completely lost in translation.

༺ WHY READ THIS BOOK ༻

Hristova's premise gives this memoir an unusually specific lens on starting over: what happens when education, professional experience, and personality all have to squeeze through a vocabulary too small to represent them. The settings make that reinvention especially interesting. Her working life moves from factory lines and Heathrow catering to security work on film sets and in government buildings, allowing language mistakes to unfold across very different corners of British working life. The comedy has consequences beyond a collection of amusing misunderstandings, too. Fluent in Faux Pas connects those mistakes with isolation, resilience, career rebuilding, and Hristova's return to faith, giving the memoir a more personal foundation beneath its wordplay.

༺ WHO WILL LOVE IT ༻

This memoir belongs on the reading list of anyone fascinated by the everyday realities of beginning again in another country, particularly the awkward territory where language and identity collide. Its movement through factories, Heathrow, security work, film sets, and government buildings should also appeal to readers who like memoirs built around varied working lives rather than a single career. The linguistic blunders provide the humor, but readers interested in immigration experiences, professional reinvention, family, resilience, and faith will find equally important threads running beneath them.

༺ ABOUT THE AUTHOR ༻

Daniela Hristova arrived in the UK with an English vocabulary consisting of little more than "teabag" and a background as a multi-media journalist, actress, and singer who had spent years working in television, radio, newspaper, and stage in her home country. With a diverse professional journey that later ranged from wielding a mop to building a career in leadership and court security, she has navigated life's twists with a steady faith, a sharp eye, and a wonderfully dry sense of humor. Channeling her unique experiences and cultural blunders into the written word, she has penned a witty tribute to the resilience it takes to start over. When she isn't writing or tackling new adventures, she enjoys spending time with her family and her dog, Dea. Fluent in Faux Pas is her debut memoir.

༺ LAST WORD ༻

A memoir about getting words wrong becomes, in Hristova's hands, a record of finding ways to be understood. That distinction is what makes Fluent in Faux Pas worth noticing. The mismatched words and literal translations may supply its most immediately comic moments, but the larger story concerns the distance between arriving in England unable to communicate freely and eventually building a career, a family life, and a story she could tell in her own voice. For readers who appreciate memoirs in which humor and difficult transitions occupy the same page, Daniela Hristova's account offers an intriguing way to mark today's release.

About the Book

This book of poems is about thoughts, feelings, and emotions we all experience, struggle with, and that have been brought to the forefront by this current pandemic. Losing loved ones, our freedom, and everything taken for granted in our daily lives; while facing sadness, anger, grief, and loneliness, has taught us the importance of our love for nature, gratitude, happiness, cherished memories, and relationships. No feeling or emotion is too small or negligible. Acknowledging and expressing them is my voice from the inside.

About the Author

Sarah Ann Negus is a modern-day shaman. She grew up in South London and has spent her life finding out who she really is. Her journey of discovery, in this her first book, takes you from lost to found in the most alternative of ways. Sarah’s experience was not easy, but she believes that coming home to your true self does not have to be a fight or a struggle.

As a child she learned that not everyone saw what she did, and she hid her gifts. Coming back to them as an adult, she slowly remembered her purpose and promised to share them.

Sarah runs a successful mentoring and public speaking business working with entrepreneurs and executives who understand their energy is a powerful driving force for growth, both personally and professionally. She facilitates an altered state of consciousness for her clients which allows them to observe themselves and the world differently as a result. They take actions from a new belief system, which empowers them to achieve what they previously believed was impossible. Her clients typically say; “This has been life-changing”.
